Fifteen-year-old Kanyeyachukwu Tagbo-Okeke has made history as the official Guinness World Record (GWR) holder for the largest painting on a canvas by an individual.
The massive artwork, spanning 12,303 square meters—more than twice the size of a football field—was unveiled at Eagle Square, Abuja, on April 2, coinciding with World Autism Awareness Day. His achievement surpassed the previous record by nearly 3,000 square meters.
The unveiling ceremony was attended by civil society groups, diplomats, traditional rulers, top government officials, and stakeholders in the arts and culture sector.
Tagbo-Okeke was formally presented with his Guinness World Record certificate during the event.
His father, Mr. Tagbo Okeke, revealed that the young artist’s journey began with a deep love for colors and a structured routine designed to help him focus. He explained that the theme of the record-breaking artwork, “Impossibility is a Myth,” symbolized the challenges faced in creating such a monumental piece.
Speaking at the event, the UN Resident Coordinator in Nigeria, Dr. Mohamed Fall, represented by UNICEF’s Cristian Munduate, explaining the significance of disability inclusion in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
He also reiterated that the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development seeks to leave no one behind, ensuring that individuals with disabilities, like Kanyeyachukwu, have equal access to opportunities, education, and employment.
