The African Democratic Congress (ADC), newly adopted as the political platform of Nigeria’s leading opposition coalition, is making strategic moves to woo at least five sitting governors ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Top sources within the coalition say the ADC is capitalising on internal divisions within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), hoping to convince disillusioned governors to cross over in the coming months.

Already, five high-profile PDP figures across five states have formally resigned and pledged allegiance to the ADC.

Recall that the coalition, driven by influential figures such as former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi, and ex-Senate President David Mark, unveiled the ADC as its unified political vehicle during a high-profile gathering on Wednesday.

At that event, David Mark was announced as Interim National Chairman of the ADC, while former Minister of Interior Rauf Aregbesola emerged as Interim Secretary.
