At least 59 people were killed in a wave of violence and tragic incidents that swept across Borno, Kano, Kebbi, and Plateau states between Friday and Saturday.
The deadliest of the attacks occurred in Kebbi State, where 30 residents reportedly lost their lives in a suspected bandit assault. Details surrounding the attack remain sketchy, but local sources say the community was left devastated, with many others injured.
In Plateau State, tragedy struck during what was supposed to be a celebration, as 12 wedding guests were killed in an ambush by unidentified gunmen. The attack adds to a long-running string of communal and criminal violence plaguing the state.
Meanwhile, in Borno State, a female suicide bomber detonated an explosive device at a bustling fish market in the Konduga Local Government Area on Saturday, killing 12 people and injuring several others. According to witnesses, the market was crowded when a sudden blast shook the area.
“It was a devastating moment. Many people died,” a resident told Sunday PUNCH. “The bomber was burnt beyond recognition.”
Victims of the Borno blast were buried the same day according to Islamic rites at the Konduga cemetery.
