U.S. President Donald Trump has announced that Russian President Vladimir Putin has agreed to negotiations aimed at ending the nearly three-year war in Ukraine.
Trump made this revelation in a post on Truth Social following what he described as a “lengthy and highly productive” phone call with Putin on Wednesday.
This marks the first publicly disclosed conversation between the two leaders since Trump assumed office for his second term. According to the U.S. president, both sides agreed to have their respective teams begin negotiations immediately in a bid to end the prolonged conflict.
“As we both agreed, we want to stop the millions of deaths taking place in the War with Russia/Ukraine,” Trump stated, emphasizing that Putin even echoed his campaign motto, COMMON SENSE, during the discussion.
While no further details have been provided on the negotiation process or Ukraine’s involvement, the announcement signals a potential shift in diplomatic efforts to resolve the conflict. The Kremlin has yet to release an official statement confirming Trump’s account of the conversation.
Trump has long positioned himself as capable of brokering peace in Ukraine, previously claiming he could end the war within 24 hours if re-elected.
