Frustrated by years of neglect, residents of several Ibadan communities took to the streets on friday, protesting the worsening state of roads in areas including Odo-Ona Elewe, Liberty Academy, Idi-Iroko, Adewole, and Olugbemi.
The demonstrators who marched to Adamimogo 105.1FM as well, voiced their grievances over the severe impact of the poor infrastructure on their daily lives.
According to the residents, the impassable roads have not only made access to healthcare difficult but have also crippled local businesses and cut them off from essential services. Many lamented that the lack of proper road networks had stifled economic growth and left their communities isolated from development.
A youth leader in one of the affected areas, Olamide Badiru, made a direct appeal to Governor Seyi Makinde and lawmakers representing the communities, urging them to take immediate action. “We are not asking for too much, just roads that don’t make life unbearable for us,” he pleaded.
Also speaking, a local landlord, Salau Toyeed, described the daily struggles caused by the deplorable roads. He recounted how families were forced to endure hardship, with vehicles breaking down frequently and transportation becoming increasingly expensive.
The protest serves as a wake-up call for the government to address the infrastructural decay in these communities.
Residents are demanding urgent intervention, hoping that their voices will push the authorities to take meaningful steps toward repairing the long-neglected roads.
