The Bet9ja Foundation U-20 Football Competition began on March 18 with an exciting opener between BestLegs FC and Ekiti Queens FC Feeders, drawing football enthusiasts from across Ekiti State.
The tournament, designed to nurture young female football talent, is set to deliver weeks of thrilling action as rising stars compete for glory.
With six teams vying for the title, the competition follows a group-stage format. Group A features BestLegs FC (Ijero Ekiti), Ekiti Queens FC Feeders, and Alpine Dazzlers FC, while Group B includes EKSU Lionesses FC, Golden Queens FC (Ado Ekiti), and FUOYE Dazzlers Queens. The top two teams from each group will progress to the knockout stage, setting the stage for intense battles.
Tournament Director Pelumi Abiara explained that the initiative is not just about competition but also about mentorship and empowerment. “We’re proud to support women’s football development and inspire the next generation of female leaders from Ekiti using football,” he stated.
Beyond the on-field action, the tournament is expected to provide young athletes with exposure to scouts and career opportunities. Organizers believe that fostering grassroots women’s football will strengthen the sport’s growth in Nigeria, giving talented players a platform to shine.
As the tournament progresses, fans can expect a showcase of skill, determination, and teamwork, with hopes that the competition will produce future stars for both local and national teams.
