The inaugural Bet9ja Foundation U20 Women’s Football Competition took off in Ijero Ekiti on Monday 17th, 2025 with a blend of thrilling sports action with life-skills mentoring to empower young female athletes.
The tournament began with a ceremonial kickoff by Abayomi Omoboriowo, one of Bet9ja’s top agents in Ekiti, who emphasized the foundation’s commitment to youth development. “This is more than just the football, we are using this opportunity to build confidence and opportunities for Ekiti’s future leaders,” Omoboriowo stated.
Ekiti Queens FC Feeders dominated the kickoff encounter , securing a resounding 4-0 victory over Bestlegs FC, thanks to goals from Akinola Fayoke, Adebayo Seyi, Olusola Tunmise and Aina Ifeoluwa. The match showcased the rising female talents in Ekiti, with standout performances thrilling the crowd at Ijero Stadium.
The event’s empowerment pillar also took center stage during a mentorship session led by a member of the Main Organizing Committee Mrs. Olawunmi Olabede. Addressing players from both teams, Olabede urged the young athletes to prioritize personal hygiene and open dialogue about health.
“Your well-being off the pitch is as vital as your performance on it. Never shy away from discussing health challenges, strength starts with self-care,” she advised.
The competition continues Sunday March 23rd, 2023 with more group-stage clashes, as teams vie for a spot in the knockout rounds.
