President Bola Tinubu has suspended the Governor of Rivers State, Siminalayi Fubara, along with his deputy, Mrs. Ngozi Odu, and all elected members of the state House of Assembly for an initial period of six months.

The announcement was made during a nationwide broadcast on Tuesday.

The President said with the crisis persisting, there is no way democratic governance, which was fought and worked for over the years, can thrive in a way that will redound to the benefit of the good people of the state.

He mentioned that the state has been at a standstill since the crisis started, with the good people of the state not being able to have access to the dividends of democracy.

Recall that the crisis in Rivers State has been brewing for months, with reports of political infighting and clashes between factions within the state government.
