The Oyo State Government has commenced the second phase of its free textbook distribution initiative for public secondary schools across the state.

The Commissioner for Education, Science, and Technology, Salihu Adelabu, led the exercise on Friday at the State Secretariat in Agodi, Ibadan, reaffirming the government’s commitment to its free and qualitative education policy.

Adelabu disclosed that the programme has significantly increased student enrolment in public schools across the 33 local government areas, explaining the administration’s success in removing barriers to education.

“As part of our educational reform agenda, we are distributing core textbooks covering key subjects including Mathematics, English Language, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Agricultural Science, Economics, Basic Science and Technology, Information Technology, and Social Studies,” he said.

The commissioner stressed that the initiative aligns with Governor Seyi Makinde’s commitment to improving learning outcomes and reducing the financial burden on parents.

He added that the free textbook distribution would continue in phases until all students in public secondary schools across the state are adequately covered.
