The Oyo State Government has commenced the disbursement of N264 million in compensation to property owners affected by the Senator Rasheed Adewolu Circular Road project in Ibadan.

The cheques were handed over at the Ministry of Lands, Housing and Urban Development, Agodi Secretariat, according to a statement by the Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Prince Dotun Oyelade.

The Commissioner for Lands, Housing and Urban Development, Hon. Akin-Funmilayo Williams, said the payment marked the first batch of compensations. He explained that the valuation followed a thorough identification and verification process of affected properties along the road corridor.

Williams emphasised that Governor Seyi Makinde’s administration remains committed to inclusive governance and developmental equity. “We consider it important to compensate landowners affected by the road construction. The Circular Road project will ultimately increase the state’s economic and infrastructural value,” he said.

He further urged those with valid claims and documents to approach the ministry, assuring transparency and fairness in subsequent compensation phases.

Expressing appreciation, one of the beneficiaries, Mr. Salawu Abiola, commended the governor’s empathy and commitment to due process. He described the compensation as a welcome relief amid the transformation underway.
