Elder statesman and legal icon, Aare Afe Babalola (SAN), has called on all tiers of government and Nigerians to revive their commitment to agriculture, drawing inspiration from former President Olusegun Obasanjo’s historic “Operation Feed the Nation” programme.

Babalola made this appeal over the weekend in Ado Ekiti while receiving the Ekiti State Commissioner for Wealth Creation and Employment, Mr. Kayode Fasae, and his delegation during a tour of Afe Babalola University, Ado Ekiti (ABUAD).

According to the Senior Advocate of Nigeria, the agricultural policy introduced by Obasanjo during his military rule between 1976 and 1979 remains a clear testament to how national food production can combat poverty, hunger, and unemployment.

“The country should borrow a leaf from former President Olusegun Obasanjo who introduced Operation Feed the Nation during his first coming as a military Head of State,” Babalola said, describing the initiative as a transformative model capable of lifting millions out of hardship if properly replicated today.

He urged policymakers and citizens to return to the land, stressing that agriculture remains the most reliable pathway to sustainable development and economic resilience in Nigeria.
