Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) have arrested popular Lagos socialite, Emeka Okonkwo Daniel, widely known as E-Money, over alleged abuse of the Naira and defacing of foreign currency.
E-Money was reportedly picked up by EFCC officials on Monday night at his residence in the Omole area of Lagos State.
According to sources within the anti-graft agency, the socialite is being investigated for spraying United States dollars at public events—an action said to contravene Nigeria’s Foreign Exchange Act.
A source confirmed, “On Monday night, we arrested E-Money for Naira abuse and defacing foreign currencies. Specifically, he was alleged to have sprayed U.S. dollars, which is against the Foreign Exchange Act.”
The EFCC has intensified its clampdown on currency mutilation and abuse in recent months, warning celebrities and public figures to desist from acts that violate financial regulations.
