Brazilian authorities successfully foiled a bomb attack planned for Lady Gaga’s massive concert at Copacabana Beach in Rio de Janeiro on Saturday night. The show was attended by more than two million fans.
According to the Civil Police of Rio de Janeiro, working alongside the justice ministry, the plot involved the use of improvised explosive devices. The suspects were planning to stage the attack to gain viral attention on social media. At least two individuals including a teenager have been arrested in connection with the plan.
Police revealed that the alleged mastermind of the operation had recruited others to carry out the attack and was already under surveillance when the arrests were made. Authorities said no explosives were detonated, and the concert proceeded without incident.
However, Lady Gaga’s team, in a statement, confirmed they only learned of the threat through media reports after the event. The American pop superstar had performed a free show as part of a global music event, drawing one of the largest crowds of her career.
