The New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP)candidate in the upcoming 2024 Ondo State off-cycle governorship election, Olugbenga Edema has resigned from the party. He cited deep-seated internal conflicts and a lack of credible leadership as his reasons for leaving.

In a resignation letter addressed to the party chairman in Mahin Ward 11, Ilaje Local Government Area, Edema expressed frustration with what he described as a fractured political structure incapable of winning elections.

Since joining the NNPP in June 2024, Edema said he had witnessed persistent internal strife and disunity that undermined the party’s ability to function effectively as a political platform.

“This is not healthy for any serious-minded party that intends to win elections, which is the major objective of all political parties,” Edema stated in his letter made public on Sunday.

The former chairman of the Ondo State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission (OSOPADEC) added that the party’s leadership had failed to uphold core political values and ethics.
