Nigeria’s Flying Eagles defeated hosts Egypt 4-1 on penalties to claim the bronze medal at the 2025 U-20 Africa Cup of Nations.

The third-place match, played at the 30 June Stadium in Cairo, ended 1-1 after regulation time. Egypt took an early lead in the third minute through Osama Omar, capitalising on a defensive lapse by the Nigerians.

The Flying Eagles, still recovering from their semi-final loss to South Africa, regrouped after the break. Their persistence paid off in the second half when Divine Oliseh set up Bidemi Amole, who finished calmly to bring Nigeria level.

With no extra time, the game went straight to penalties. Nigeria showed greater composure, converting four of their spot-kicks, while goalkeeper Daniel Oyegoke saved two efforts to secure the win.

The victory gave Nigeria a strong finish to the tournament, earning them the bronze medal and restoring some pride after missing out on the final.
