The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has announced that it will release the results of 379,000 candidates who sat for the rescheduled Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) between Friday and Monday.

This follows a decision by the board to conduct a resit for candidates affected by technical and human errors during the initial examination. The issues, particularly pronounced in Lagos and the South-East, led to widespread complaints and poor performance.

Out of the 1.9 million candidates who participated in the 2024 UTME, over 1.5 million scored below 200 out of 400 marks, sparking nationwide concern among parents, students, and education stakeholders.

Under intense pressure to investigate the failures, JAMB discovered glitches within its system that negatively impacted candidates’ scores. Acknowledging the gravity of the situation, JAMB Registrar, Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, last week took full responsibility for the lapses. In an emotional moment, he announced a rescheduled examination for the affected candidates, vowing to restore confidence in the examination body.

The release of the rescheduled UTME results is expected to provide clarity and a sense of justice for students who were unfairly affected by the earlier technical failures.
