Bayelsa State is currently leading the medal table at the 22nd National Sports Festival, known as the Gateway Games 2024, taking place in Ogun State.

The state has so far won a total of 53 medals, including 30 gold, 12 silver, and 11 bronze, following strong performances in sports such as athletics, swimming, and wrestling.

Delta State has also secured 53 medals but ranks second due to a lower number of gold medals. Delta’s tally includes 20 gold, 8 silver, and 25 bronze. Rivers State is in third place with 11 gold, 9 silver, and 8 bronze, bringing its total to 28 medals.

Edo State has the highest number of total medals at 58, but with only 6 golds, it is currently placed sixth. The state also has 22 silver and 30 bronze medals.

Other notable results include Oyo State with 29 medals (9 gold, 7 silver, 13 bronze), Osun with 19 medals (8 gold, 1 silver, 10 bronze), and Lagos with 31 medals (7 gold, 8 silver, 16 bronze).

Some emerging talents were also highlighted in the Invited Junior Athlete category, which won 6 medals, showcasing promising young athletes.

States like Akwa Ibom and Plateau collected 10 medals each, while Cross River and Abia secured 5 and 15 respectively. The Federal Capital Territory earned 7 medals, mostly bronze.

However, some states, including Anambra, Niger, Ekiti, Kwara, Ondo, Bauchi, Kaduna, and Benue, have struggled at the games, winning four medals or fewer, with several yet to claim a gold.
