Paul Adefarasin, senior pastor and founder of House on the Rock Church, has broken his silence following the circulation of a viral video that appeared to show him holding what many believed to be a firearm.
The video, shared widely on social media on Friday, captured Adefarasin in a vehicle during an encounter with a Lagos-based content creator known for filming luxury cars. At the end of the clip, the man behind the camera could be heard apologising as Adefarasin drove off.
The footage quickly triggered reactions online, with many Nigerians criticising the clergyman for allegedly possessing a weapon.
However, in a statement issued Saturday evening, Pastor Adefarasin clarified the situation, denying that he had brandished a gun.
“You might be aware of a video which has been circulating on social media showing me in what some have misunderstood as brandishing a firearm,” the statement read. “I want to assure you of this — that, that was certainly not a firearm, and at no point did I point such at anyone.”
Adefarasin did not specify what the object in question was but insisted that public interpretation of the clip was misguided.
