A fresh round of high-stakes negotiations between the United States and China is set to begin in London on Monday, as both sides seek to resolve a lingering trade war that has strained global markets.
US President Donald Trump confirmed on Friday that a senior American delegation would participate in the discussions. Beijing later announced that Vice Premier He Lifeng will lead the Chinese team.
The renewed diplomatic effort follows what Trump described as a “very good talk” with Chinese President Xi Jinping last week.
However, the optimism comes with caution: both nations have recently accused each other of violating the terms of a temporary truce struck last month to ease import tariffs on goods flowing between the two countries.
