The Lagos State Police Command has confirmed that the object brandished by popular cleric, Pastor Paul Adefarasin, in a now-viral video is not a firearm but a stun gun, a non-lethal device classified as prohibited anti-riot equipment.
The clarification, issued via the police command’s official X handle on Tuesday, came in response to growing public concern after a video surfaced showing the House on the Rock founder wielding a gun-like object while driving an unregistered vehicle.
According to the statement, Adefarasin voluntarily reported to the police and cooperated fully with investigators. He was questioned and provided a cautionary statement during the session.
“Pastor Paul Adefarasin, who turned himself in today at the Lagos State Police Command over a viral video where he was seen holding a gun-like object against another road user, was interrogated and he volunteered a cautionary statement to the police investigators,” the statement read.
Authorities disclosed that the object in question was identified as a stun gun, not a conventional firearm, though it still falls under the category of prohibited items due to its anti-riot classification.
The police further noted that Pastor Adefarasin has been granted administrative bail while investigations continue. They assured the public that the findings and subsequent actions will be made public upon the conclusion of the probe.
