The Lagos and Oyo State governments have pledged their support for Gamble Alert’s nationwide campaign to promote responsible gambling, highlighting the need for stronger regulatory oversight and mental health safeguards.
Their endorsement came during the 2025 Responsible Gaming Symposium held in Lagos, where policymakers, mental health experts, and industry stakeholders convened to address the growing risks associated with gambling in Nigeria.
Representing the Lagos State Commissioner for Health, Prof. Akin Abayomi, at the event, Dr. Tolu Ajomale — Deputy Director and Head of Special Projects and Mental Health at the Ministry of Health — commended Gamble Alert’s efforts. He emphasised the importance of early intervention and public awareness in curbing gambling-related harm.
“We are encouraged by the work of organisations like Gamble Alert, advocating for responsible gambling and engaging stakeholders to provide safety nets for users,” Ajomale said.
Oyo State also declared its commitment to the campaign, noting that gambling addiction poses a public health concern that demands urgent attention.
Both states pressed on the need for policy-backed regulation and increased mental health services to support individuals at risk of gambling addiction.
