Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s presidential candidate in the 2023 general election, has criticised President Bola Tinubu for not personally visiting Yelwata in Benue State following the deadly attacks that left scores dead and many displaced.

In a statement shared on X handle on Friday, Obi questioned Tinubu’s absence, stressing that leadership demands presence, compassion, and personal sacrifice especially during national tragedies.

“One of the consistent principles of leadership is the willingness to make ultimate sacrifices and take risks,” Obi said. “A true leader does not make excuses or complain; he shows up, sacrifices, and provides solutions, especially in difficult times.”

While acknowledging the security concerns around presidential movements, Obi described Tinubu’s excuse for not visiting the community as “unacceptable.”
