The Supreme Court of Saudi Arabia has announced Thursday, June 26, 2025, as the beginning of Muharram and the Islamic New Year 1447 AH, following the confirmed sighting of the crescent moon on the evening of Wednesday, Dhul Hijjah 29.

The declaration, reported by the Saudi Press Agency, follows verified testimonies from the Crescent Sighting Committee and ushers in a new year in the Islamic lunar calendar for Muslims around the world.

In its statement, the Supreme Court offered prayers for the continued health and leadership of King Salman bin Abdulaziz and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, while also calling for unity and peace across the Muslim Ummah in the year ahead.
