The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has unveiled plans to resume the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise nationwide, with a phased rollout beginning next week. The announcement came during INEC’s quarterly meeting with political parties in Abuja on Thursday.

The commission will launch online pre-registration on Monday, August 18, 2025, followed by in-person biometric capture starting Monday, August 25. This hybrid approach mirrors INEC’s successful 2023 general election methodology, designed to reduce overcrowding at registration centers.

Meanwhile the registration reboot precedes critical by-elections across:

– 2 Senatorial Districts (Anambra South & Edo Central)

– 5 Federal Constituencies (Edo, Jigawa, Kaduna, Ogun & Oyo States)

– 9 State Assembly Seats

Over 3.5 million registered voters across 6,987 polling units will participate in what INEC Chairman Prof. Mahmood Yakubu termed “a litmus test for our enhanced electoral processes.”
