The Presidency has dismissed as false the widespread social media claims that Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), George Akume, has resigned or been replaced.

Speculations swirled online Saturday night, alleging that Akume had either quit or been sacked from his post.

However, in a swift rebuttal, Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Information and Strategy, clarified that no such development has occurred.

In his words, “There has been no change in the status of His Excellency, Senator George Akume, as Secretary to the Government of the Federation. The information circulating about Akume’s replacement is untrue. Agents of mischief fabricated it.”

Onanuga further stated that President Tinubu who is currently on an official visit to Saint Lucia, has made no new appointments and remains confident in Akume’s role as SGF.

The presidency urged the public to disregard the rumour and verify news from official government sources to curb the spread of disinformation.
