President Bola Tinubu is reportedly preparing to reinstate the suspended Governor of Rivers State, Siminalayi Fubara, and members of the State House of Assembly later this month. This follows a breakthrough reconciliation between Fubara and his estranged political godfather, Nyesom Wike.

According to exclusive information obtained by The PUNCH from Presidency sources, the truce was brokered during a closed-door meeting at the Presidential Villa on Thursday night. In attendance were Governor Fubara, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Wike, suspended Speaker Martin Amaewhule, and several lawmakers from the state.

Recall that President Tinubu had in a national broadcast suspended Fubara, his deputy, and the entire State House of Assembly for six months, citing “disturbing security reports” related to widespread pipeline vandalism and alleged inaction by the state government.

Tinubu warned then that the oil-rich state was descending into chaos and that his administration could not afford to “watch the grave situation fester.” The suspension was met with mixed reactions, with many critics accusing the Presidency of overreach, while others praised the intervention as necessary for national stability.

However, sources now suggest that President Tinubu is keen on resolving the crisis before it spirals further, especially given the economic importance of Rivers State and growing concerns about federal overreach. The reconciliation is also seen as a political win for Tinubu, who has faced criticism over worsening security and internal party fractures.
