The 2027 presidential race in Nigeria is already gathering momentum as former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi, and ex-Senate President David Mark have officially adopted the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as the new political platform to unseat President Bola Tinubu.

The high-stakes political realignment was unveiled on Wednesday at the Shehu Musa Yar’Adua Centre in Abuja, where key coalition leaders named David Mark and former Osun State Governor Rauf Aregbesola as the interim National Chairman and Secretary of the revamped ADC.

The coalition’s emergence has stirred controversy within the ADC itself. Dumebi Kachikwu, the party’s 2023 presidential candidate, along with members of the old guard, have accused Atiku, Obi, and their allies of hijacking the party, insisting the new entrants lack the capacity and vision to lead.

Meanwhile, the Acting National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Umar Damagum, cautioned that the PDP remains a cohesive force and warned that any attempt to undermine the party through coalition politics will not go without consequences.

Also, the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), in its reaction, brushed off the coalition move, describing the opposition figures as “retired politicians” unwilling to exit the political stage. The APC expressed confidence that President Tinubu would easily defeat the coalition in the 2027 elections.
