Veteran journalist and publisher of Ovation magazine, Dele Momodu, has alleged that Nyesom Wike, current Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), spent as much as $30,000 on each delegate during the 2022 presidential primaries of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
The former presidential candidate was speaking during an interview on Politics Today on Channels Television, saying he received a warning from a former Nigerian president not to bother contesting the primaries because Wike had already “raised the stakes” by allegedly offering large sums to delegates.
“A former president of Nigeria sent someone to tell me not to waste my money on the PDP 2022 primaries because Wike had raised the stakes to $30,000 per delegate—$30,000 multiplied by 774 delegates,” Momodu said.
Momodu also expressed disappointment over Wike’s conduct during the primaries, saying he expected a fair contest from all aspirants.
“What I expected of him was that if you weren’t going to support a man, if you’re going to run, run a fair race,” he said.
Momodu also criticised Wike’s conduct and style since becoming FCT minister, describing the former Rivers State governor’s transformation as troubling.
