The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has raised concerns over alleged moves by powerful political figures to destabilise the growing opposition alliance ahead of the 2027 general elections.

In a statement issued on Monday, the party’s interim National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, claimed that some former ADC state chairmen and influential figures from the North-East and North-West had held a secret meeting with senior government officials.

Abdullahi said the ADC had credible intelligence that the meeting was not convened for national security or peacebuilding, as suggested, but to sabotage the party’s progress and tarnish the credibility of its newly restructured leadership.

“Their goal is to create confusion, delegitimise our leadership, and halt the growing momentum of the ADC as a unifying voice of the opposition,” he said.

He however urged President Bola Tinubu to reaffirm his commitment to democracy by distancing his administration from any such efforts to silence dissenting voices or manipulate opposition forces.

Recall that the ADC has recently been at the forefront of calls for a united opposition to challenge the ruling party’s dominance in 2027, making it a key player in Nigeria’s shifting political landscape.
