Pan-Yoruba socio-political organisation, Afenifere, has distanced itself from a group claiming to be a faction of the body and calling for the suspension of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), George Akume.
In a statement issued on Thursday in Abuja and signed by the organisation’s Organising Secretary, Mr Abagun Omololu, Afenifere described the statement attributed to it as “mischievous” and “unauthorised,” stressing that it did not emanate from the group.
Omololu clarified that Afenifere remains a unified body with no recognised factions. “There is only one Afenifere under the leadership of our respected elder statesman, Pa Reuben Fasoranti,” he said.
He urged the public and media to disregard the purported statement calling for Akume’s suspension, labelling it a deliberate attempt to sow confusion and misrepresent the organisation’s position.
