A Chinese national seen in a viral video handing N5,000 cash to officers of the Nigeria Police Force has defended the gesture, describing it as a harmless token of appreciation for their service and professionalism.

The video, which drew widespread attention and raised concerns about possible impropriety, showed uniformed officers lined up to receive money from the foreign delegation.

However, responding to the controversy, the Chinese man, who identified himself as the head of the visiting group, said the money was given openly and in good faith.

“There was no inappropriate exchange or demand,” he said. “What you see in the video was a friendly and open interaction — nothing was done in secret and nothing inappropriate happened.”

He maintained that the gesture was not meant to undermine the officers’ integrity, but rather to show gratitude for their hospitality and professionalism during the visit.
