The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arrested former managing directors and top officials of the Port Harcourt, Warri, and Kaduna refineries over allegations of mismanaging nearly $3 billion allocated for the rehabilitation of the facilities.
According to Saturday PUNCH, the anti-graft agency is probing $1.56 billion earmarked for the Port Harcourt refinery, $740.7 million for the Kaduna refinery, and $656.9 million for the Warri refinery, bringing the total to approximately $2.96 billion.
Those arrested include the ex-Managing Director of Port Harcourt Refining Company Ltd, Mr. Ibrahim Onoja, and Efifia Chu, the former MD of Warri Refining and Petrochemical Company Ltd.
Further revelations from Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC Ltd.) insiders indicate that about N80 billion was traced to the account of one of the sacked officials.
