A Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) aspirant for the 2026 governorship election in Ekiti State, Peter Obafemi, has decried the deteriorating state of roads across the state, warning that they have become enablers for criminal activities such as kidnapping and banditry.

Obafemi made the remarks recently while addressing traditional leaders and stakeholders during a visit to the Elekole of Ikole Ekiti, Oba Aderemi Fasiku, as part of consultations in the Ikole Local Government Area.

“The poor condition of some roads in the state has contributed to rising insecurity. Criminals exploit these routes to ambush innocent citizens,” he said.

If elected governor, Obafemi pledged to prioritize security by strengthening the Amotekun Corps and backing it with resources and collaboration with federal security agencies.

He also proposed a tactical shift from town-based patrols to forest and border surveillance.

“My own Amotekun will not be patrolling towns aimlessly. They will be stationed in the forests and at our borders, on 24-hour watch, to combat herdsmen, bandits, and kidnappers. That’s where the real threats come from,” he stated
