The 15th Emir of Kano, Alhaji Aminu Bayero, has canceled the Eid-el-Fitr Durbar celebration due to security concerns in the state.
Speaking at his Nasarawa Mini Palace on Wednesday night, Emir Bayero noted that maintaining peace and harmony among the people takes priority over the annual festival.
The Durbar celebration, which would have marked his fifth anniversary on the throne, was called off following advice from Islamic clerics, elders, stakeholders, and council members.
Emir Bayero urged Kano residents to use the Sallah period to foster family bonds and celebrate peacefully. He also prayed for Allah’s mercy during Ramadan and for the forgiveness of the people’s sins.
