New York City Mayor Eric Adams has dismissed an alleged involvement in a deal with Trump’s administration to drop a corruption case against him in exchange for enforcing the president’s immigration agenda.

Adams who denied the allegations while speaking in an interview alongside Trump’s border tsar Tom Homan, rejected the idea that a quid pro quo had occurred, calling it “silly”.

His remarks come a day after the top US prosecutor in Manhattan, Danielle Sassoon, resigned from her post, claiming the justice department was pressuring her to drop criminal charges against Adams.

Sassoon’s decision to quit triggered a flurry of other resignations within the justice department, including federal prosecutor Hagan Scotten.

Recall that, Adams was indicted last year for allegedly accepting gifts totaling more than $100,000 (£75,000) from Turkish citizens in exchange for favors. He denies the charges.
