A powerful explosion shook central Athens late Friday night near the offices of Hellenic Train, the Greek railway company, sparking panic but leaving no casualties.
CCTV footage captured the moment a backpack left outside the building detonated, sending debris flying. The blast occurred near Leoforos Andrea Siggrou, one of the capital’s busiest highways.
Authorities said anonymous callers had phoned media outlets to issue warnings before the explosion, allowing police to evacuate the area in time.
Transport Minister Christos Staikouras strongly condemned the incident, describing it as a “criminal act” that recklessly endangered lives. An investigation is ongoing to identify those responsible.
