The Nigerian federal government has denied allegations of bribery made by Tigran Gambaryan, an executive of Binance Holdings Limited, calling them “false and unsubstantiated.”
Recall that Gambaryan, in a post on X, had claimed that three lawmakers—including Peter Akpanke and Philip Agbese—demanded a $150 million cryptocurrency bribe. He also alleged that National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu sought “billions in payouts from Binance for political ambition.”
However, in a response, Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, issued a statement on Friday rejecting the accusations. Idris described Gambaryan’s claims as “outrageous allegations, misinformation, and defamatory statements,” adding that Nigeria’s government had refused Binance’s $5 million offer for his release in favor of a “more beneficial settlement” with the U.S. government.
Recall that Gambaryan was detained from February to October 2024 as part of Nigeria’s investigation into Binance’s operations and its impact on the national currency.
