A former Governor of Oyo State, Dr. Victor Omololu Olunloyo, has passed away, just days before marking his 90th birthday.

His death was confirmed in a statement issued on Sunday by Oladapo Ogunwusi on behalf of the Olunloyo family. Titled “Victor Olunloyo Goes Home,” the statement paid tribute to the late statesman’s life of service and intellectual brilliance.

“With a heavy heart but gratitude to the Almighty, we announce the passing into glory of Dr. Victor Omololu Olunloyo, former governor of Oyo State, mathematician, engineer, and renowned technocrat, a few days before his 90th birthday,” the family said.

Dr. Olunloyo, who held traditional titles such as the Balogun of Oyo and Otun Bobasewa of Ife, was also a trailblazer in academia. He was the first rector of both the Ibadan Polytechnic and Kwara State Polytechnic, among other notable national appointments.

Describing his death as a devastating loss, the family noted that his legacy of dedication to public service and excellence in governance and education remains a source of pride.

They also appealed for privacy during this difficult time as preparations begin for a befitting burial.
