Top diplomats from the United Kingdom, France, and Germany are set to meet with Iran’s foreign minister in Geneva friday, in a high-stakes effort to defuse rising tensions between Israel and Iran that have sparked fears of a wider regional conflict.

The talks come following increasing military exchanges between the two countries. The Israeli military claims it carried out overnight strikes on dozens of Iranian military sites, while Iran responded with missile attacks targeting Israeli cities, including Beersheba in the south, where at least five people were reported injured. Fires were also reported near Microsoft’s local offices in the city.

Meanwhile, uncertainty looms in Washington, where the White House says President Donald Trump will decide within two weeks whether the U.S. will join Israeli strikes. According to his press secretary, Trump is weighing the potential for diplomatic resolution, believing there is a “substantial chance” for talks.
