The recently impeached Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mudashiru Obasa, has dismissed corruption allegations leveled against him, describing them as “fictitious and unsubstantiated.”

Speaking during a welcome rally at his residence in Joel Ogunnaike, GRA, Ikeja, on Saturday, Obasa maintained that his removal from office does not intimidate him, but he insisted that due process must always be upheld.

“If I am not Speaker, that’s not the end of the world,” he said. “If you want to claim that I am corrupt, please prove it.”

Obasa alleged that his impeachment was orchestrated in his absence and accused the Lagos State Commissioner of Police of facilitating the process.

HHeals claimed that over 200 security operatives invaded the Assembly complex and his residences in Agege and Ikeja, locking his family indoors while the impeachment was carried out.

Mocking some of the allegations against him, Obasa dismissed reports of misappropriation, particularly claims that a gate construction project cost N16 billion. “Is it the wall of Jericho?” he quipped.

The former Speaker, who has represented Agege Constituency I since 2007 and was elected Speaker in 2015, emphasised that the integrity of the Lagos State House of Assembly must not be tarnished.
