Tensions between nuclear-armed neighbours India and Pakistan have surged after both countries exchanged missile strikes and drone operations, with each side accusing the other of deadly aggression.

In the aftermath of India’s missile strikes on Pakistan and Pakistan-administered Kashmir, both nations are reporting significant civilian casualties. Pakistan claims that 31 people have been killed and 57 injured due to Indian airstrikes and shelling since Wednesday. Meanwhile, India’s military reports that at least 16 civilians died from Pakistani shelling along its side of the Line of Control.

Both countries have made unverified claims about drone activity overnight.

Meanwhile, Pakistan says it shot down 25 Indian drones, while India asserts it has neutralised a number of “drones” and “missiles.”

India’s military action followed a deadly militant attack on Indian tourists in Pahalgam last month, which it blames on Pakistan-based groups. Islamabad denies any involvement.
