Former U.S. President Joe Biden, 82, has been diagnosed with an aggressive form of prostate cancer that has already spread to his bones, according to a statement released by his office on Sunday.

The diagnosis came following a medical consultation prompted by persistent urinary symptoms. Further tests revealed that Biden’s cancer is “high-grade” with a Gleason score of 9 out of 10 — indicating a fast-growing and potentially dangerous form of the disease.

Despite the severity of the diagnosis, Biden’s medical team noted that the cancer is hormone-sensitive, meaning it is likely responsive to certain treatments that can manage or slow its progression.

Biden, who left office in January, is currently weighing treatment options with his family. The news has drawn a wave of support from political allies and well-wishers across the country, with many expressing hopes for a positive outcome.

Cancer experts note that while metastatic prostate cancer can be challenging to treat, hormone therapies and emerging medical advances offer a degree of hope, especially if intervention begins promptly.
