Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has reiterated his administration’s commitment to promoting youth and sports development across the state through enhanced infrastructure, training support, and a conducive environment for growth.
The governor made this pledge when he recently recieved the Torch of Unity, a symbolic emblem that marks the countdown to the 2025 National Sports Festival, tagged Gateway 2025, scheduled to begin this weekend in Abeokuta, Ogun State.
Represented by Deputy Governor Bayo Lawal, Governor Makinde received the torch from Mrs Nkana Ibora, a representative of the National Sports Council, at the entrance to the Governor’s Office, Secretariat, Agodi, Ibadan.
Makinde described the reception of the Torch of Unity as both an honour and a reaffirmation of Oyo State’s commitment to national unity, peace, and shared progress.
He urged Oyo State athletes and sports officials to view the torch not just as a ceremonial gesture but as a powerful symbol of brotherhood and national cohesion that connects all 36 states of the federation.
