Mojisola Meranda has stepped down as Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, announcing her resignation during a special plenary on Monday afternoon.

Reading her resignation letter before lawmakers, Meranda formally ended her tenure, which began on January 13, 2025, following the removal of former Speaker Mudashiru Obasa. Her exit has fueled speculation that Obasa is set to be reinstated.

Despite her short tenure, lawmakers praised Meranda for her leadership and ability to maintain stability within the Assembly during a turbulent period.

Alongside Meranda, all principal officers appointed with her also resigned, signaling a broader shift in the Assembly’s leadership.
