The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC ) earlier this week approved a 50 percent increase in telecom tariffs, leading to higher charges for calls and data bundles across all telecommunications companies in the country.
This development has triggered widespread displeasure among citizens including residents in Ibadan who have expressed dissatisfaction with the timing of the hike on the heels of the ongoing economic challenges.
Reacting to the tariff increase, a student based in Ibadan, Daniel who spoke to Adamimogo 105.1FM, described the decision as inconsiderate given the harsh economic realities faced by Nigerians.
Also, a customer service provider, who chose to remain anonymous, pointed out that many Nigerians might initially overlook the changes due to their reliance on data bundles to stay informed.
Also speaking, a data vendor also shared her frustrations, lamenting a decline in sales since the new tariffs came into effect. She noted that customers often blame sellers for the price hike, despite it being a directive from the NCC.
The tariff increase has continued to stir reactions across the country, with citizens calling for immediate measures to address the economic hardship and its ripple effects on essential services like telecommunications.
