The Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Ali Pate says Nigeria is attracting patients from the United Kingdom, United States, and neighboring West African countries for quality medical care.

Speaking recently at a meeting presided over by President Bola Tinubu, Pate highlighted Nigeria’s growing reputation in the healthcare sector. “People are now beginning to come from the subregion, and even from faraway places like the UK and the US, to receive quality healthcare in Nigeria,” he stated.

Despite existing challenges, Pate noted that significant progress is being made in the country’s healthcare system, aligning with President Tinubu’s commitment to transforming the sector.

As part of efforts to enhance medical services, the federal government has approved contracts for equipping tertiary health facilities, including a N12 billion investment in Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) machines for six tertiary institutions.

This move is timed at  improving diagnostic capabilities and reduce the need for medical tourism abroad.
