Nigerians are not all about mischievous, there are good ones in large numbers.
For her honesty, a Nigerian-American based in New Jersey, U.S.A., Victoria Ogunremi has been widely praised for returning $5,700 in cash, which she discovered in the restroom of her workplace. The remarkable act of honesty has earned her accolades from her employer, colleagues, and the owner of the lost money.
Speaking with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in a telephone interview on Monday, Ogunremi revealed that her decision to return the money was motivated by empathy for the person who misplaced it. She explained, “The thought of the pain or trauma it could cause inspired me. I did not hesitate to return it because of my Christian faith and beliefs.
“Honesty brings peace of mind, and it is the key virtue I cherish.” She says.
After finding the cash, Ogunremi made efforts to locate its rightful owner before informing the management of her workplace. Her prompt actions not only resolved what could have been a distressing situation but also reinforced her reputation for integrity among her colleagues.
Ogunremi’s coworkers expressed admiration for her character, with many stating they were not surprised by her selfless gesture. According to them, her act of kindness reflects her consistent moral principles and unwavering commitment to doing the right thing.
This incident has been celebrated as a shining example of integrity and kindness, particularly among Nigerians in the diaspora.
