Twelve of Nigeria’s top fencers have begun preparations for the 2025 African Fencing Championships, set to take place in Lagos from June 25 to 29.

The team commenced training on Thursday at the Lagos Fencing Club in Lekki under the supervision of Italian coach Riccardo Bardine.

The strategic collaboration is expected to deliver regular coaching exchanges, technical support, and long-term development for local athletes and trainers.

Leading the Nigerian squad are Inkosi Brou, currently the country’s top-ranked fencer; U.S.-based rising talent Peluola Akinbamiro; and local standout Wisdom Okanlawon.

Officials from the Nigerian Fencing Federation expressed optimism about the country’s chances, highlighting the blend of experience and emerging talent in the squad.
