Nigerians will pay more for driver’s licences and number plates beginning Sunday, June 8, 2025, following an upward price adjustment approved by the Joint Tax Board (JTB).

In an official announcement published in a national daily, the JTB — Nigeria’s apex tax and revenue authority — directed all relevant government agencies and motor vehicle licensing authorities to enforce the new rates, citing enhanced security features and rising production costs as the rationale behind the increase.

Under the revised fees, a motor vehicle driver’s licence will now cost N15,000 for a three-year validity and N21,000 for five years. Tricycle and motorcycle driver’s licences have been pegged at N7,000 (three years) and N11,000 (five years).

Number plate charges have also been adjusted, with standard private and commercial vehicle plates set at N30,000 each. Articulated vehicle plates will now cost N90,000, while dealer plates are fixed at N100,000. Out-of-series and fancy vehicle number plates will attract N150,000 and N400,000 respectively.

For government vehicles, standard and fancy number plates are priced at N80,000 and N120,000. Meanwhile, motorcycle number plates now cost N12,000 for standard, N50,000 for fancy, N20,000 for government standard, and N50,000 for government fancy plates.

The JTB advised members of the public to visit the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) website or any State Internal Revenue Service or Motor Vehicle Administration Authority for more information.
