At least 98 people have died and more than 150 others are injured after the roof of the popular Jet Set nightclub in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, collapsed during a packed concert in the early hours of Tuesday.
Among the victims were provincial governor and former Major League Baseball star Octavio Dotel, 51, who died en route to the hospital after being pulled from the rubble. Beloved merengue icon Rubby Pérez, who was performing at the time, was also confirmed dead by his manager.
Reports say the nightclub was reportedly at full capacity, with hundreds gathered to see Pérez live. Officials say around 400 rescue workers are still combing through debris in search of survivors, as fears mount that the death toll could rise.
Emergency teams are investigating the cause of the collapse, which has sent shockwaves through the nation.
